Noor Jahan is the visionary founder of Shesrig Ladakh and the Shesrig Foundation, both of which are dedicated to the preservation of Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage. With over a decade of hands-on experience in art conservation, Noor established Ladakh’s first-ever art conservation studio, creating a platform uniquely attuned to the region’s heritage preservation needs.
Her work is grounded in a deep commitment to sustainable conservation practices that respect the integrity of traditional Ladakhi art forms while incorporating modern conservation techniques. Noor's extensive on-site experience spans diverse projects, from intricate wall painting restorations to structural and object conservation, making her a pivotal figure in the field. Through Shesrig, she has built an environment where conservators can work closely with local communities, empowering clients and artisans alike to protect and celebrate Ladakh’s cultural legacy for future generations.
Dr. Safiya Sherrin M K is a passionate advocate for the conservation of Himalayan architecture, driven by her deep appreciation for the region's unique cultural heritage and beliefs. Although a Critical Care Physician by profession, her extensive travels and personal research have equipped her with a profound understanding of the historical and cultural significance of art and architecture in the Himalayan region.
She co-founded Shesrig Foundation in order to document and restore endangered architectural sites in the region. She emphasizes the importance of sustainable practices in preservation efforts and aims to expand the work of Sheshrig Foundation to the social and infrastructural development of Ladakh, in future. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the stunning landscapes of the Himalayas and sharing stories about its rich architectural legacy.
Kunzes Dolma is a skilled art conservator from Ladakh who joined Shesrig in 2021. With a solid foundation in conservation, she has honed her expertise through hands-on experience, notably working under renowned conservator Nelly at the Matho Museum project, where she primarily focused on the meticulous preservation of in-house artifacts.
Since joining Shesrig, Kunzes has expanded her skillset to include wall painting conservation, making significant contributions to various restoration projects across Ladakh. Her dedication and growing versatility in both object and wall painting conservation reflect her commitment to safeguarding Ladakh’s cultural heritage. Kunzes’s work not only enriches our team but also advances Shesrig’s mission to preserve and celebrate Ladakhi art and heritage for generations to come.
Dechen Angmo is a talented art conservator from Ladakh who became part of the Shesrig team in 2021. Her conservation journey has been marked by a strong commitment to preserving Ladakhi heritage, and since joining Shesrig, she has been involved in a variety of wall painting conservation projects across the region.
Dechen’s skillset spans both traditional and contemporary conservation techniques, allowing her to approach each project with a holistic understanding of art preservation. Her dedication and expertise have made her an invaluable member of our team, contributing meaningfully to Shesrig’s mission of conserving and revitalizing Ladakh’s rich artistic and cultural legacy.
Niva Araine Cunz is a skilled conservator from Switzerland who generously volunteers her expertise with Shesrig. With a Master’s degree in Conservation, she specializes in the preservation of painted wood and wall paintings, bringing a wealth of technical knowledge to our projects.
Niva’s dedication to art preservation is reflected in her meticulous approach and her commitment to supporting Ladakh’s cultural heritage. Her voluntary contributions at Shesrig have enriched our team’s capabilities, allowing us to integrate specialized techniques and insights from international conservation practices into our work on Ladakhi heritage sites. Her collaboration plays an essential role in advancing Shesrig’s mission to preserve and protect the region’s historical art forms.
Tenzin Rabten is a master of traditional Thangka painting, having received his training from the renowned Tibet School of Art in Himachal Pradesh. Deeply committed to preserving this ancient art form, Tenzin creates exquisite Thangka paintings that reflect the rich stylistic and symbolic elements of traditional Tibetan artistry.
He is passionate about working with natural pigments and colors, which imbue his work with authenticity and vibrant detail. Each of Tenzin’s pieces is crafted with a reverence for traditional techniques and materials, and his dedication to the art form allows him to contribute meaningfully to the continuation of this cultural legacy. Through his artistry, Tenzin not only creates new works but also keeps alive a cherished tradition that resonates deeply within the Himalayan cultural landscape.
